Lynnwood detectives seek help in Daleway Park shooting |

Police say Carl Bridgmon, 70, was an innocent bystander. No arrests have been made.

LYNNWOOD — A retired Lynnwood man was an innocent bystander when he was fatally shot at Daleway Park, according to the Lynnwood Police Department.

No arrests had been made in the shooting as of Wednesday afternoon. Detectives are now asking for the public’s help “to find those responsible for this heinous crime.” Lynnwood police are asking for anyone who lived in the area of the park to check their surveillance cameras for footage of a black car recorded on April 5 between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

Carl Bridgmon, 70, went to the small forested park near Highway 99 several times a week to drink his coffee, according to a statement from his family. Lynnwood police say he was caught in the middle of an argument between two teenagers and two unidentified people when shots were fired around 2:15 p.m. April 5. The two unidentified people then left in a black car.

Details of the investigation remained sparse Wednesday. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Bridgmon died of gunshot wounds. He left behind two daughters and two sisters.

“Carl never met a person he didn’t talk to or try to make friends with,” his daughter Courtney Teno said in the statement.

According to the news release, detectives have “identified, located, and contacted a number of witnesses,” but they believe there’s one more person who may have seen something.

“We are asking that person to please come forward and share any relevant information they have that could help bring to justice those who senselessly cut Carl Bridgmon’s life short.”
