Most of the damage appeared to be in a basement under a pair of restaurants.
EVERETT — A single-alarm fire badly damaged a strip mall Thursday in south Everett.
Smoke billowed out of a basement garage around 3:35 p.m. at 9629 Evergreen Way.
Everett firefighters raced to put out the flames next door to a massage parlor and spa in the L-shaped building’s lower level. Fire crews radioed that the fire had been knocked down after about 40 minutes. The Everett Fire Department had the help of South County Fire, spokesperson Rachael Doniger said. At least 17 fire units were on scene.
Tenants upstairs include Tia Lety Tamaleria y Taqueria; 5 Rivers Indian Cuisine; a hair salon; and a small Latin American grocery store.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, and the extent of damage was unknown.
The cause was also under investigation.
